Batchelder Appoints Young as House Clerk
Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) announced that, effective in early January, former House Reading Clerk Brad Young will return to assume the position of House Clerk. Jennifer Woodring, who currently serves as House Clerk, recently stepped down from her role to spend more time with her growing family. Her final day is Jan. 7, 2013 -- the day the 130th General Assembly is due to convene. (See The Hannah Report, 12/4/12.)
“I appreciate Jennifer Woodring’s many years of service to this institution and wish her the very best,” Batchelder said in a prepared statement. “She has served the clerk’s office with great distinction and has been crucial in helping to maintain the integrity and reliability of the legislative process. She will be sorely missed.
“Brad Young is an outstanding and dedicated individual, and I am pleased that he will be our House Clerk during the 130th General Assembly,” Batchelder continued. “After serving for over a decade in the House, he brings with him impressive knowledge and understanding of this institution and the rules of the House, which will be a tremendous asset as we tackle Ohio’s important issues in the coming years.”
Young was an employee of the Ohio House from 1995-2009. He began his service as a legislative aide to former Reps. George Terwilleger and Dennis Stapleton, followed by eight years of service as the House reading clerk and two years as assistant House clerk. Beginning in 2009, Young served as a congressional assistant to U.S. Rep. Steve Austria and, most recently, as a legislative liaison and the director of public affairs in the office of the Ohio Treasurer of State Josh Mandel. He is a former member of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries and serves in several volunteer roles in his community.
Also leaving at the end of 2012 was Deputy Clerk Tom Sherman, who retired. (See The Hannah Report, 12/13/12.)
