Politics Notebook: Senate Minority Leader Rips HB194 Repeal Plan
Gongwer 3/21/12
With a GOP plan to repeal election law changes already subject to a fall referendum apparently picking up steam, the top Senate Democrat on Tuesday accused the majority of playing politics.
"Republicans apparently learned their lesson from Senate Bill 5. To avoid suffering another stinging defeat at the ballot box, they have decided to repeal House Bill 194 before Ohioans have an opportunity to reject it," Senate Minority Leader Eric Kearney (D-Cincinnati) said in a statement.
Sen. Kearney was responding comments from a spokesman for Speaker Bill Batchelder (R-Medina) who previously expressed constitutional concerns with the repeal measure (SB 295 ), indicating the House was now on board. (See Gongwer Ohio Report, March 19, 2012)
