Although lawmakers agreed last month on a bill that carves out 16 new congressional district maps, the arguing over how Ohio should draw legislative and congressional maps is not dying down.

Voting advocates defended their proposed constitutional amendment against criticism from lawmakers Thursday as they prepare for the arduous trek to put the redistricting issue before voters in November.
After months of fine-tuning, a coalition led by the League of Women Voters has settled on a proposed amendment that would create a 12-member commission charged with redrawing congressional and General Assembly districts after each decennial census count.
Members would be selected by a panel of eight randomly selected appellate judges and would consist of four Republicans, four Democrats, and four independents. Approval of a new map would require support from at least eight commissioners, including two representing each of the three political affiliations.
