Drug-Prevention Programs
The Ohio Business Roundtable urged legislative
leaders to swiftly act to institute the third-grade reading guarantee proposed
as part of the mid-biennium review, lending its support for the as-introduced
version of the language.
In a letter addressed to House Speaker Bill Batchelder (R-Medina) and
Senate President Tom Niehaus (R-New Richmond),
BRT President and CEO Richard Stoff said unless Ohio students are reading at
grade level by fourth grade, they will face "the battle for their futures
unarmed."http://www.gongwer-oh.com/programming/news.cfm?article_ID=810920208

Poll: Ohioans favor Kasich drilling tax
A new poll shows Ohioans overwhelmingly favor Governor John Kasich’s plan to raise taxes on oil and gas drillers in order to pay for income tax cuts. The Quinnipiac Poll found two out of three voters approve of the plan. Governor Kasich wants to raise the severance tax on oil and gas drillers from the current 1.5 percent to four percent and use the money to reduce income taxes in Ohio. But the plan is stalled in the Ohio House. House Speaker Bill Batchelder says he wants to make sure the tax hike doesn’t discourage the oil and gas industry from drilling in Ohio. Kasich’s office says the plan could lower individual income taxes by about five percent.
